Aerial footage shows construction progress at Bois d'Arc Lake Reservoir
Fannin County, Texas - Bois d’Arc Lake is the first major reservoir to be built in Texas in nearly 30 years, a project led by the North Texas Municipal Water District. The lake, located northeast of Bonham in Texas’ Fannin County, will provide the water needed to serve a growing population of 1.7 million North Texans. The reservoir’s two-mile-long and 90-foot-tall dam will create a lake capable of storing 367,609 acre-feet of water (120 billion gallons).
Archer Western is providing Construction Manager at Risk Services for the Dam and Terminal Storage Reservoir, one of the five key components of the Lower Bois d’Arc Program. Archer Western is overseeing construction activities as well as self-performing construction activities for the Raw Water Pump Station. Current progress includes the following operations listed below.
Dam/Terminal Storage Reservoir:
- Construction of a 99-foot-tall structural concrete Intake Tower with stop logs, screens, and actuated gates. Crews are currently forming and pouring the 79 to 95-foot lift with a 4-foot deck coming up soon.
- Construction of a 3 cycle labyrinth weir and Service Spillway with chute and Stilling Basin. Concrete slabs are placed and 55% of the walls are placed. Crews are working on 40-foot-tall walls in the Stilling Basin.
- Construction of a roughly 6 million cubic yard zoned earthen embankment dam. Crews are filling Bois d’Arc Creek which marks a milestone for the project and enters phase 2 of construction where water is diverted through the Intake and Diversion channel. To date, roughly three million yards of embankment have been placed.
- Construction of earthen dam internal drainage components.
- Mass excavation and grading of an Emergency Spillway. Crews are currently excavating, having removed 1.6 million yards out of 2.7 million.
- Construction of a Terminal Storage Reservoir in Leonard, Texas. All embankment, piping, and structural concrete has been completed at this location.
