Replacement of 168 buckling restraint braces (BRBs) prepared the VA Seattle campus for a seismic event and helped it upgrade its life safety measures. The project included seismic corrections for 277,500 square feet of seismic deficiencies in a nursing tower, a community living center and the VA Puget Sound Healthcare System. Corrections included a steel seismic retrofit, installation of 168 BRBs and MEP system seismic upgrades. The focus of the project was correction of seismic deficiencies to bring the facilities up to code with respect to earthquake standards and to protect the buildings in case of a seismic event.
