CHICAGO, ILLINOIS
HCSC Vertical Completion
Walsh Construction was the original design/builder of the 33-story structure that accommodated 4,400 occupants. Twelve years later, we are now the construction manager expanding it to 57 stories and 8,000 occupants. Walsh managed all aspects of the original building design and construction including value-engineering services to assist in achieving all of the owner’s architectural design objectives. Future vertical expansion was factored into the original construction with accommodations built into the foundation and superstructure, various mechanical systems, and the vertical transportation system. A 24-floor expansion over an occupied building is very rare, and this is the first of its kind in the city of Chicago. Watch this video to see how Walsh accomplished this historic project with unique logistical challenges while preserving public and employee safety and security.
