O’Hare Water Retention Basin
Walsh was the General Contractor for the creation of this 60-foot diameter sunken caisson pump station, concrete spillway, and an intake structure that serves to transport water from the retention pond at O’Hare north airfield to the nearby Willow Higgins Creek. It is part of the $6.6 Billion O’Hare Modernization Plan. The sunken caisson method was used to set the basin structure at a grade of 65 feet below ground level.
