Archer Western to Begin Hospital Project
The state has issued a notice to proceed to Archer Western Contractors of Charlotte for the new Broughton Hospital. Archer Western was awarded the contract in January.
The new 430,000 square-foot facility will hold 382 beds, an increase of more than 100 beds.
The cost of the new hospital and new equipment is an estimated $154.8 million. The project is part of the state’s ongoing initiative to upgrade mental-health facilities.
Broughton is the second-oldest state-run psychiatric hospital in the state, and its history dates to 1883. Its current 278-bed facility serves the state’s 37 westernmost counties.
