Veterans Memorial Bridge: Update
An aerial look at the Veterans Memorial Bridge project provides a wide view of the structure in its entirety as construction continues into late September. From about 1,000 feet, the high perspective shows how the structure fits into the environment it spans and the resulting landscape changes on each end of the road.
Haunch beams will be set in October. The beams are secured to the top of a column, forming what looks like an uppercase "T." Once secure, segments are dropped between the ends of the haunch beams to form the skeleton of the bridge. The haunch beams, which allow for greater span distances between bridge columns, will be used in the area around Kiplinger Island.
