Walsh Goes Global: The New American Embassy at Oslo, Norway
On September 27, 2011, Walsh was awarded our first overseas embassy project, The New American Embassy at Oslo, Norway. The client is the US Department of State, Office of Overseas Building Operations (OBO). The project is a five building complex based on the OBO’s Standard Embassy Design, adapted to fit in to the context of local Norwegian architectural tradition. The design incorporates many sustainable design features and is registered as LEED Silver. The project also includes the rebuilding of the public roads adjacent to the project site. More information about the project can be found here.
The contract value is approximately $200 million and the scheduled duration is 34 months. Walsh teamed with Kaseman Company and a local Norwegian general contractor, Varden Entreprenor, to assist us in understanding and managing the local subcontractor marketplace.
Walsh's project team is now living in Oslo and construction is underway. We are actively engaged with local subcontractors in the buyout process, recruiting additional team members, and working through the local permitting requirements.
