Is it a tunnel, bridge, or park project?
Officially 10 years in the making, this innovative 5.2 acre park sitting atop the Woodall Rodgers Freeway reconnects Downtown and Uptown Dallas.
The Archer Western team built the major phase of this very exciting bridge, tunnel, and park project when they constructed a 5.2 acre bridge across eight lanes of the Woodall Rodgers Freeway, setting the foundation for the park. Archer Western also built all features and systems for the tunnel created underneath, and the unique geo-foam/lightweight soil system for utilities and trees for the park on top.
A restricted project site with limited work hours and the need for extensive coordination were some of the major challenges of this project. A custom-designed, project-specific straddle crane to place approximately 900 precast trench panels in between project specific box beams for the deck was among the solutions applied to meet the challenges and to provide safety and cost savings.
Archer Western joined with the Texas Department of Transportation, the City of Dallas, The Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation and McCarthy Building Co. to form a uniquely structured public-private partnership. This team brought Dallas a park that is sure to have a huge impact on bringing the downtown and Uptown neighborhoods back together.
