Pierce County STOP Facility Stage 2 construction underway
Walsh began construction on Stage 2 of the Pierce County Sewer Traffic and Operations Facility, which will combine Sewer maintenance and operations (M&O), Traffic M&O, and a portion of the County Equipment Services Division into a single facility. These groups have been in need of new facilities, they have similar and compatible missions, and the greatest portion of their respective systems are located within the same geographic service area.
This consolidation will allow Pierce County to provide its citizens with greater reliability and cost effectiveness in the operation and maintenance of sewer and traffic infrastructure. By co-locating these three work groups in a centrally-located site, Public Works and Utilities will be able to share resources and space, optimize productivity, and decrease emergency response times.
The facility is designed to LEED Gold standards and will include daylight harvesting, recycled and regional materials, high efficiency HVAC including geoexchange ground loop system, LED lighting for the building and the site, stormwater infiltration contained completely on site, pervious paving, and natural ventilation.
