Walsh Canada Reaches Commercial and Financial Close on New Etobicoke General Hospital Expansion
Vaughan, Ontario – Walsh Canada is pleased to announce it has achieved commercial and financial close on the Etobicoke General Hospital Phase 1 Patient Tower project agreement with William Osler Health System and Infrastructure Ontario. Commercial and financial close signal the fulfillment of the contractual requirements prior to the start of construction. Walsh is serving as the Design‐Builder that forms part of the Etobicoke Healthcare Partnership consortium, comprising DIF Infra 4 Canada Ltd. (equity), Axium Infrastructure (equity), Brookfield Financial (developer and financial advisor), HDR Inc. (design lead) and ENGIE Services (facilities maintenance). The scope of work consists of a 250,000 square‐foot, four‐storey, LEED Silver addition to the existing facility that will house expanded acute care, sub‐specialty clinical, and support services that include:
• Ambulatory Procedures (Outpatient Surgery)
• Cardiology, Respiratory and Neuro‐Diagnostic Department
• Critical Care Unit
• Emergency Department
• Medical Day Care Unit
• Women’s and Children’s (Labor and Delivery with NICU)
• Satellite Diagnostic Imaging Unit
• Materials Management
• Patient Food Service
• Corporate Registration
The project also includes a new main entrance for the hospital, retail space, and expanded site works to improve accessibility and operational efficiencies. The existing building will undergo 17,000 square‐feet of renovations with several tie‐in points to the new expansion. Construction is valued at $170 million and will start in June 2016, with Substantial Completion scheduled for June 2018.
“This is a particularly significant win for Walsh as it reinforces our reputation as one of the top healthcare builders and P3 project Design‐Build partners in North America” says Craig Lesurf, Vice President and Business Group Leader for Walsh Canada. “We are excited to deliver this challenging project that will expand the delivery of healthcare options for the local communities served by William
Osler Healthcare System.”
This newly acquired project adds to Walsh’s growing Canadian P3 portfolio that includes the recently completed Women’s College Hospital Capital Redevelopment and Credit Valley Hospital Phase 3 Priority
Areas Redevelopment, currently under construction. Despite competing against long established contractors, Walsh has continued to punch above its weight since its foray into the local market five years ago.
