Archer Western Expands Norman Water Reclamation Facility
Norman, Oklahoma - The City of Norman, Oklahoma celebrated the 75th anniversary of their Water Reclamation Facility in conjunction with its new expansion and upgrades. Norman is now able to utilize wastewater as a resource that can be reclaimed, recycled and reused.
Archer Western served as the general contractor tasked with delivering a project that would give a new identity to the water reclamation plant, which was previously referred to as the city's sewer plant. The $63 million project expanded the capacity to 17 MGD and included facility rehabilitation and enhancements throughout the plant, plus a new UV disinfection facility.
The project required a multitude of new processes and components including two new secondary clarifiers, a splitter box, a new RAS/WAS pump station with dry pit submersible pumps, a new sludge blend tank and sludge pump station, secondary digester cover, primary digester and two new thickening centrifuges along with required ancillary equipment.
The largest capital improvement project in Norman’s history replaced aging equipment and allows the facility to meet the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality’s regulations for disinfection. The new UV disinfection facility will clean wastewater effluent to meet federal standards before discharging into the nearby Canadian River.
