Construction begins on Clark-Estes Apartments, new affordable housing in Rogers Park
CHICAGO – Construction is officially underway on the $13 million Clark-Estes Apartments coming to Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood. Walsh Construction joined Ross Financial, Worn Jerabek Wiltse (WJW) Architects and 49th Ward Alderman Joe Moore at a ground-breaking ceremony to celebrate the 58,000-square-foot development.
Clark-Estes Apartments will deliver 54 apartments and 3,300 square feet of ground floor retail space, providing a link between surrounding residential and commercial uses along the 7000 block of N. Clark Street.
Designed by WJW Architects, the affordable apartment complex will include a mix of studio, one, and two-bed units. The ground floor retail space will be able to accommodate three new neighborhood businesses, according to Alderman Moore.
“Clark-Estes Apartments is a crucial project increasing affordable housing options on the north side of the city," said Doug Ross, president of Ross Financial. "Furthermore, this transit oriented development was primarily financed with LIHTC’s from the City of Chicago, and a grant from ComEd, and will meet Enterprise Community Green standards. Providing residents with affordable, energy efficient, and conveniently located units in the diverse and vibrant Rogers Park community makes Clark Estes Apartments a one of a kind development.”
Clark-Estes Apartments will supplant a vacant lot where the Adelphi Theater once resided. The theater, opened in 1917, closed in 2002 and was demolished in 2006. Alderman Moore praised the addition of more affordable housing to Rogers Park.
Walsh Construction is the general contractor for Clark-Estes Apartments; construction is expected to be complete in Fall 2019.
