Final prestressed beam is cast on Pennsylvania Rapid Bridge Replacement Project
Allentown, PA -- Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners (PWKP) – the team delivering and maintaining the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project ‒ visited a local manufacturing plant to commemorate the final prestressed concrete box beam manufactured for the program.
Northeast Prestressed Products ‒ one of three Pennsylvania suppliers of prestressed concrete box beams on the project -- cast the last beam on July 19 at its manufacturing plant in Cressona, PA.
Of the 558 total bridges being replaced on the project, 362 utilize prestressed concrete box beams -- that totals 2,237 prestressed beams. Placed end to end, the beams used on the project would stretch 31 miles of linear feet. The total linear feet of strand used on 2,237 prestressed beams would stretch 1,504 miles.
The Rapid Bridge Replacement Project is an $899 million public-private partnership (P3) awarded by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) to the consortium of Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners (PWKP). The project is an initiative to replace 558 aging bridges throughout Pennsylvania. PWKP will finance, design, replace, and maintain the bridges for 25 years.
