Miraculous Medals Placed at Site of New Purdue Apartment Complex
WEST LAFAYETTE, IN - Walsh Construction’s Miraculous Medal tradition continued at the site of a new 835-bed apartment complex coming to the west side of the Purdue University campus.
The firm's tradition, placing Miraculous Medals in a project’s first concrete pour, dates back across six decades. The Miraculous Medal is an oval-shaped depiction of Mary according to Saint Catherine Laboure’s vision. The gesture of placing Miraculous Medals symbolizes an inspiration for the workers to successfully complete the job safely.
The private four-story, three-building, 387,000-square-foot complex called “Aspire at Discovery Park” will include studio, two-bedroom and four-bedroom apartment styles. The complex also has committed 18,000 square feet for community and retail space in the facilities.
The apartment complex will be located on a five-acre tract on the south side of State Street, a major east-west artery running through campus.
Walsh Construction and joint venture partner Smoot Construction are responsible for constructing the facility. The joint venture of Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions and Walsh Investors has signed a long-term lease with the Purdue Research Foundation for the land.
