Vassar Brothers Medical Center Celebrates Topping Out of New Patient Pavilion
POUGHKEEPSIE, NEW YORK - A major construction milestone has been reached on the new 752,000-square-foot patient pavilion coming to Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Crews from Walsh Construction, along with joint venture partner Consigli Construction, topped out the eight-story structure with the ceremonious placement of the project's final steel beam.
Larry Bell, vice president of construction and property management for Health Quest Systems, addressed the construction team and project stakeholders. He expressed excitement for the new facility that will transform patient care and the patient/family experience at the hospital.
Hospital staff, construction workers and local Poughkeepsie residents signed messages of love, pride and thanks on to the beam that will permanently reside atop the new patient tower.
Messages filled all sides of the beam, some long, some short, some in memoriam and some in hope, including a message from a local family:
"May God bless all who are cared for within these walls and those gracious people who care for them. Forever."
The innovative patient pavilion will feature 264 private patient rooms, 30 critical care rooms, a 66-room emergency department, 12 surgical suites, and a 300-seat conference center..
