Archer Western completes Plant IV Expansion at Wylie Water Treatment Plant
WYLIE, TX – North Texas Municipal Water District's latest water treatment expansion is online and servicing residents from the Wylie Water Treatment Plant. Construction Manager Archer Western, along with Carollo Engineers, orchestrated the design and construction of the Plant IV 70 MGD Expansion project, which increases Plant IV’s capacity to 210 MGD and raises the total treatment plant capacity to 840 MGD.
The $87 million project included new pumped rapid mix facilities, new flocculation and sedimentation basins, 10 new filters, new 3,500-square-foot ozone disinfection facility and an additional chemical storage and feed facility. Archer Western and construction team members also installed more than 1,600 linear feet of 96-inch steel pipe.
Additional features of the expansion include:
- 800,000 gallon backwash supply tank and filter backwash system
- 1,000,000 gallon basin for reclaimed water

Archer Western is the largest builder of water treatment plants in the United States, according to Engineering News-Record, totaling $336 million in latest annual revenue for water treatment plant construction.
In addition to work at Wylie Water Treatment Plant, Archer Western is currently working with North Texas Municipal Water District on multiple portions of the new Bois d'Arc Lake Reservoir in Fannin County - the largest reservoir to be built in North Texas in three decades.
