Construction Begins on Chicago Transit Authority Red Line Stations and Track
CHICAGO, IL - Walsh Construction and joint venture partner Fluor Corporation joined Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, U.S. Senator Richard J. Durbin, Congressman Mike Quigley and the Chicago Transit Authority to break ground on the Lawrence to Bryn Mawr station and track modernizations, part of the $2.1 billion Red and Purple Modernization Program (RPM), the largest capital project in CTA’s history.
The modernization of the Lawrence, Argyle, Berwyn and Bryn Mawr stations will also deliver rebuilt tracks and support structures along a 1.3-mile section of track on Chicago's northside.
"When this is all said and done, this will look like nothing you've ever seen before in the CTA system. We're very excited about this project and our collaboration with the CTA." - Dan Walsh Jr.
As part of the modernization work, the 100-year-old stations at Lawrence, Argyle, Berwyn and Bryn Mawr will be demolished and reconstructed. The new modern stations will be larger and fully accessible with elevator and escalator access, wider platforms and improved lighting.
Pre-construction work began in 2019. Lawrence to Bryn Mawr modernization work is scheduled to be completed in 2024. RPM’s first phase is scheduled to be completed in 2025.
