Walsh Construction completes renovations to Northwestern Medicine medical office building
Bloomingdale, Ill. - Walsh Construction has completed the renovation of Northwestern Medicine's medical office building in Bloomingdale, Ill. The project featured the prefabrication and installation of more than 70 modular exam rooms, a first-of-its-kind project delivery method for Northwestern Medicine.
The 50,000-square-foot renovation, designed by Cannon Design, expands the existing medical office space and provides a modernized and upgraded facility for Northwestern Medicine Immediate Care, Physical Therapy and Diagnostic Imaging; as well as Northwestern Medicine Regional Medical Group specialties, including Primary Care, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Orthopedics and Gastroenterology.
Walsh Construction partnered with Hill Mechanical, Jamerson & Bauwens Electric, and RG Construction to construct the 70 exam room pods off-site utilizing local trade labor. Ahead of delivery to the site, the pods were prepared to 95% completion with drywall, insulation, ceiling tiles, cabinets, sinks, electrical wiring and plumbing. The modular construction approach was chosen to provide a multitude of benefits, including speed-to-market, standardization of exam rooms, project safety and quality control in a controlled setting.
In addition to modular exam rooms, construction and renovation efforts also incorporated exterior work which include a new façade, new structural foundation work for new structural steel, new roof, new MEP infrastructure, and parking lot and landscaping upgrades.
The renovation makes the Bloomingdale medical office building one of Northwestern Medicine's largest outpatient facilities.
