The Walsh Group completes Union Street pedestrian bridge, creates link to Seattle waterfront
SEATTLE - The Walsh Group has completed the new Union Street Pedestrian Bridge in downtown Seattle. The 95-foot-long concrete walkway provides a link to the waterfront from Western Avenue. The Walsh Group joined Waterfront Seattle, local officials and Seattle residents to officially open the new bridge with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Designed by Schemata Workshop, the new bridge provides an accessible connection to the waterfront with a wider walkway, stairway and an elevator. Pedestrian lighting is integrated in the railings of the bridge and stairs, underneath the bridge deck and within the elevator.
The Union Street bridge connects Western Avenue and Alaskan Way, part of the many key east-west streets that are being improved upon by the City of Seattle. The project also features artwork by Seattle artist Norie Sato, bringing attention to the environment found near the waterfront.
