Lawson House receives industry accolades for historic preservation and renovation
Chicago, IL - The $128 million Lawson House renovation, delivered by Walsh Construction and Farr Associates, modernizes and preserves the affordable apartment units within the historic Art Deco building. Walsh Construction worked with Holsten Real Estate Development and Holsten Human Capital to rehabilitate the 200,000-square-foot, 24-story structure, transforming the building’s 583 single-room occupancy units (SROs) into over 400 affordable apartment units with private kitchens and bathrooms.
The project was completed in Spring 2024 and residents have returned to occupy the building's renovated units.
Since its completion, the project has gained a collection of accolades from the Chicago industry including the following:
- September 2024: Lawson House receives an Honor Award in Design Excellence from the American Institute of Architects Chicago. This award recognizes projects that exemplify excellence in architectural design on all levels and embrace the highest standards to which AIA members aspire.
- August 2024: American Institute of Architects Illinois awards Lawson House the Excellence in Historic Preservation Award. This award recognizes those who have positively Illinois citizens by helping create communities in which people are drawn to live and work, and to live healthier and happier.
