Chicago, IL — The Walsh Group has once again secured the top spot on Crain’s Chicago Business list of the largest construction companies in the Chicago area for 2025. This recognition underscores the company's enduring commitment to building transformative projects that serve communities across the region.
Founded in Chicago in 1898, The Walsh Group has grown from a local builder into one of North America's largest and most respected construction firms. Over the past year, The Walsh Group has led several significant projects in the Chicago area. A sampling includes:
- CTA Red-Purple Modernization: As part of the $2.1 billion RPM Phase One Project, Walsh Construction part of the joint venture that is rebuilding nearly century-old infrastructure along Chicago's busiest rail lines. The project includes the reconstruction of four Red Line stations and the modernization of tracks and signals to enhance service reliability.
- Lawson House Renovation: The historic 24-story Art Deco building at 30 W. Chicago Avenue has been transformed into over 400 affordable micro-apartments. This $128 million project preserved the building's architectural heritage while modernizing its facilities to serve low-income renters.
- Northwestern University's New Ryan Field: Construction is underway on a new 35,000-seat stadium in Evanston, designed to achieve LEED Gold certification. Scheduled to open in 2026, the stadium aims to provide a world-class experience for athletes and fans alike.
- I-290/I-88 Interchange at I-294: Walsh Construction is contributing to the reconfiguration and reconstruction of this critical interchange to reduce congestion and improve safety. The project encompasses bridge reconstruction, noise wall construction, and roadway drainage improvements.
