Archer Western selected to build Klyde Warren Park expansion in Dallas
Dallas, TX - Archer Western has been selected to construct the expansion of Klyde Warren Park, marking a significant milestone in the continued evolution of one of Dallas' most recognized public spaces.
The Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation and Klyde Warren Park announced that the Texas Transportation Commission awarded the construction contract to Archer Western. The firm previously built the Park's original deck structure more than a decade ago
Construction is expected to begin before the end of 2026 and is anticipated to take approximately 24 months to complete.
Jacobs Lawn
"Fourteen years ago, many people questioned whether building a deck park over a freeway was even possible," said Jody Grant, founder and chairman of the Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation. "Today, Klyde Warren Park stands as proof of what can happen when a community believes in a bold vision. This expansion isn't simply about adding acreage. It's an investment in Dallas, an investment in the community and an investment in future generations."
Since opening in 2012, Klyde Warren Park has become a gathering place for residents and visitors alike, serving as a venue for celebrations, community events and everyday connections. The expansion is designed to build on that legacy while creating new opportunities for public engagement in the heart of Dallas.
The project will add 1.7 acres to the Park, increasing its footprint from 5.4 acres to 7.1 acres. The expansion will extend the Park west toward Field Street, covering the final recessed portion of the Woodall Rodgers Freeway and completing the Park's original vision.
A centerpiece of the expansion will be The Jacobs Lawn, a 37,000-square-foot multi-use green space planned for festivals, markets, performances, civic celebrations and other community events. During the winter months, the lawn will convert into an outdoor ice-skating rink, with additional seasonal programming planned throughout the year.
The Overlook
Adjacent to the lawn, The Overlook will provide a public gathering space with views of downtown Dallas from above one of the busiest freeways in Texas.
The expansion will also include a glass-and-steel pavilion suspended above the freeway between St. Paul and Akard Streets. The two-level structure is planned to feature approximately 24,000 square feet of climate-controlled event and reception space, as well as an 8,000-square-foot rooftop terrace overlooking the Dallas skyline. The pavilion will be open to the public and is envisioned as a destination that draws people into downtown Dallas.
The project reflects years of collaboration among public agencies, private donors and community leaders. Funding partners include the City of Dallas, the North Central Texas Council of Governments, the Regional Transportation Council, Dallas County, the Klyde Warren Park Public Improvement District and numerous philanthropic partners.
The engineering and design effort has been led by Jacobs in collaboration with HKS and Gensler, working alongside the City of Dallas, TxDOT and the North Central Texas Council of Governments.
With the award of the construction contract, the Klyde Warren Park expansion moves one step closer to transforming an additional section of the Woodall Rodgers Freeway into vibrant public space for the Dallas community.
