The Tarrant County College Energy Technology Center (ETC) houses a heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) study program, as well as training programs for oil, gas and renewable energy technologies. The building itself is a teaching tool that allows observation of its inner workings and mechanics. Plumbing, electrical, mechanical and structural components are openly visible in strategic locations, giving students and visitors an opportunity to learn from the building systems on a daily basis. The project also included masonry and zinc façade on a structural steel frame, a tunnel under the building and connection to existing campus utilities. The facility was designed and constructed utilizing sustainable practices, resulting in the Energy Technology Center achieving LEED Platinum certification.
