The Walsh Group recently expanded its Chicago headquarters by renovating an existing three-story building and adding a floor to create a 93,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art office building. The facility is LEED Platinum certified and includes a three-story architectural glass staircase within a sky-lit atrium with a retired bulldozer as a centerpiece. The building is composed of offices, conference rooms, training space and 20,000 square feet of heated indoor parking.
At the time of its completion, the project was certified as LEED Platinum with the sixth highest total point achievement of any project submitted to the USGBC. Highlights include a green roof covering 70 percent of the building roof surface, rainwater harvesting, 95 percent construction waste recycling throughout construction, existing building material re-use, and integrated HVAC and lighting controls with a high-efficiency enclosure and mechanical system reducing yearly annual energy costs by 42 percent.
