New Academic and Athletic Building Greets Students at Nazareth Academy
LA GRANGE PARK, IL – As a new school year begins at Nazareth Academy, a 49,000 SF academic and athletic facility greets students upon their arrival.
Walsh Construction is constructing the facility which will include a gymnasium with two basketball courts and a fitness center on the second floor, and classrooms for theater, choir, band and fine arts programs on the first floor.
The new gymnasium and nine academic classrooms are the first phase of a $13 million project. The second phase will include updates and renovations to an existing building that is nearly a century old. Enhancements include efficient heating, ventilation and air conditions systems, cosmetic improvements and handicap accessible upgrades that are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The project will also include new lights for the school's outdoor athletic field.
The new gym will be used for practice space and lower-level competition. The gym will relieve logistical issues, as students were previously shuttled to off-campus practice locations due to space limitations at the school.
The project will "in the long run, facilitate the needs of kids inside and outside the classroom – it will impact the whole student body," said Nazareth Academy President Dennis Moran, "It's a dream becoming a reality."
