The Walsh Group celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
At The Walsh Group, we are a proud company comprised of a diverse group of passionate individuals committed to performing our best every day. We aspire to be forward thinking leaders who acknowledge, celebrate, and appreciate our colleagues and business partners. This month, we are excited to welcome you to The Walsh Group’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 - October 15), a national observance of Latino history and culture that was established over 50 years ago. We invite you to reflect on the vital contributions that the Latino community has made to the success of The Walsh Group and the progress of construction industry in general.
Hispanic Heritage Month is a celebration of the history, achievements, culture, and contributions of Americans who come from or whose ancestry extends from Mexico, Spain, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. With almost 40% of our workforce identifying as Hispanic or Latino, it is paramount that we acknowledge the differences of our colleagues and connect with their rich and diverse cultures. As the “Employer of Choice”, we recognize that the Latino community has continued to play a role in supporting this core value at The Walsh Group.

We are also remembering the icons who have broken barriers and helped advance the architecture, engineering and construction industry, including trailblazers like Ruth Rivera Marín, a prominent Mexican architect who served
Ruth Rivera Marín was born in Mexico City on June 18,1927. Born to the prominent Mexican painter Diego Rivera and famous model/novelist Guadalupe Marín Preciado would later spark Ruth’s interest in the world of arts, culture, and architecture. The Mexican architect was one of the first women to attend and graduate from the College of Engineering and Architecture (EISA) at the National Polytechnic Institute in 1950. Upon receiving her degree, she went on to teach at EISA in 1952 focusing her teachings on the theory of architecture and urban planning. Following her teaching career, she was later recognized and became head of the Department of Architecture of the National Institute of Fine Arts and served as president of the International Union of Women Architects. Along with her teaching career at EISA she later came to pursue many architectural projects. In collaboration with her father and architect Juan O’Gorman, Marín completed one of her most recognized creations, the Anahuacalli Museum in Coyoacán, Mexico in 1957. Marín was later participant to additional projects, including the collaboration with Pedro Ramírez Vázquez in building of the National Medical Center and Museum of Modern Art. She also worked alongside Luis Barragan on the museum “El Eco” in Mexico City. Upon Ruth’s death in 1969, the Architecture Center at INBA was renamed in her honor.
