Walsh Construction is recognized for workplace safety excellence, joins Cal/OSHA Voluntary Protection Program

RANCHO CORDOVA, CA – Walsh Construction has been awarded entry into the Cal/OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (Cal/VPP) as a result of the company’s exceptional safety performance at the California Military Department (CMD) Consolidated Headquarters Complex.

Cal/VPP recognizes employers and their employees who have implemented safety and health programs that effectively prevent and control occupational hazards. This program goes beyond the minimal Cal/OSHA standards, providing the best possible protection throughout a jobsite.

“Congratulations to the entire design-build team on this significant recognition. This award is a direct reflection of the long-standing commitment to safety excellence that our workforce and leadership team has championed over the last three years,” said Keith Dyer, regional health, safety and environmental manager at Walsh Construction. “Walsh Construction is honored to enter into this new partnership with Cal/OSHA and join an exclusive group of California companies that are providing safe work environments for their people and customers.”

According to the California Department of Industrial Relations, when employers are approved for participation in the Cal/VPP, they are removed from the routine compliance program inspection lists. However, employers are not removed from valid employee safety and health complaint or fatality/catastrophe investigations. This frees Cal/OSHA's inspection resources for visits to other establishments and industries. As the result of Cal/VPP program, participants enter into a new relationship with Cal/OSHA in which safety and health problems can be approached cooperatively, when they arise.

The Consolidated Headquarters Complex was one of 16 projects to be approved for participation in the Cal/VPP throughout the state of California in June 2021.

Walsh Construction and design-build partner Stantec are nearing completion of the 285,000-square-foot Consolidated Headquarters Complex that will host a headquarters office building, warehouse, emergency operations center, utilities building, badging center and access control point. The large scale Zero Net Energy facility is targeting LEED Gold certification and has been constructed to achieve a variety of sustainable goals to reduce environmental impact, optimize performance, lower energy and operating costs, conserve resources, and increase occupant satisfaction and productivity.
