The Walsh Group completes Regional Correctional Facility at Joint Base Lewis-McChord
JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, WA – The Walsh Group has completed the design-build of the new Regional Correctional Facility at Joint Base Lewis McChord.
The 66,000-square-foot building replaces its predecessor and was constructed on the same site. Designed by DLR Group, the new medium-security facility is intended to put emphasis on restoration for the occupants. Features include a greenhouse, barber, outdoor garden and recreational activities, and a K9 training program.
The Walsh Group began managing demolition operations of the old building in March 2020, commenced construction in September 2020 and turned the building over to the 508th Military Police Detention Battalion in October 2022.
Walsh Group executives and project leaders joined The U.S. Army Correctional Activity, the 508th Military Police Detention Battalion and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle District for a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially unveil the facility on December 1. The ceremony featured and remarks from Major General Duane R. Miller, Provost Mashal General (OPMG), Commanding General, Brigadler General William A. Ryan III, Deputy Commanding General I Corps, and Lieutenant Colonel Emil J. Kesselring, Commander, 508th.
Additional project team members included: HME, Inc., J&S Masonry, Holmberg Mechanical, BCE Engineers, DL Henricksen, MTS and Total Grounds Maintenance.
