First arch completed for Miami’s I-395 Signature Bridge
Miami, Florida – The Archer Western-deMoya Group Joint Venture has completed construction of the first arch for the I-395 Signature Bridge. There will be six towering arches next to the overpass passing through Miami’s urban core, one of the major components of the I-395/SR 836/I-95 Design-Build Project.
Both sides of the fully formed arch were connected over Northeast Second Avenue on the east end of I-395, where the bridge is being constructed, with a cast-in-place concrete pour using 48 precast segments, weighing in at approximately 90 tons each. Work continues on the remaining five arches, as well as installation of arch segments on three of those arches, with foundation work on the two. Crews will connect a total of 345 segments to deliver the bridge’s iconic arches.
Concurrently, progress continues on the SR-836 double-decked roadway portion of the project as construction of foundations, columns and bridge support structures are ongoing. The concrete pour for the support structure has recently been completed and once the concrete completely cures, the framework will be removed.
The I-395/SR 836/I-95 Design-Build Project project is being built by the joint venture of Archer Western and The deMoya Group and will span from west of I-95 to the MacArthur Bridge, enhancing the flow of traffic and safety. The project includes pavement reconstruction, retrofitting four bridges and the construction of ramp connectors and interchange. Once completed, 4.5 miles of SR 836/I-395 will be reconstructed and widened, with a double decked section created and the Signature Bridge adding to the Miami Skyline.
