Northwestern University breaks ground on new Ryan Field
Evanston, Illinois – Northwestern University celebrated the formal groundbreaking for its new 740,000-gross-square-foot Ryan Field. Being built by the joint venture of Turner Construction and Walsh Construction, the new 35,000-seat, privately funded stadium is set to produce thousands of jobs for residents and have a great economic and community impact on the City of Evanston.
The state-of-the-art Ryan Field will feature an open-air multi-level seating bowl, high-tech video and scoreboards, updated sound systems, administrative and event staff offices and lockers, broadcast facilities and locker rooms. The facility will also serve as a vibrant venue for hosting community-oriented events and will include a community park and public greenspaces for residents to enjoy year-round.
The Turner-Walsh joint venture has recently completed demolition of the existing stadium to clear the way for the new Ryan Field. The groundbreaking ceremony celebrates the project moving into the construction phase as foundation preparation work commences.
The new Ryan Field will be designed and constructed to achieve LEED Gold-Certified standards for sustainability, resulting in one of the most accessible stadiums in college football. The project is anticipated to be complete in 2026.
