Walsh Construction and Traylor Brothers begin work on I-69 Ohio River Crossing
Evansville, Indiana – ORX Constructors, a joint venture between Walsh Construction and Traylor Bros, Inc. joined Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb and the Indiana Department of Transportation officials for a groundbreaking ceremony to commence construction on Section 3 of the I-69 Ohio River Crossing Project.
The design-build project includes the Indiana portions of the approach roadways and bridges that will ultimately provide all-weather construction access to the river, Walsh and Traylor Bros. will construct a new 1.6-mile alignment of I-69, extending north from the Indiana border to the existing mainline I-69. It will also feature a new interchange at I-69/Veterans Memorial Parkway, providing free-flow movements in all directions.
“Today signifies a key milestone toward completing the most direct, safe, and efficient connection between Evansville and Henderson,” said Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb. “This additional crossing will open the door to limitless new opportunities for transportation, economic and community development projects.”
The I-69 Ohio River Crossing Section 3 will also involve the construction of two large embankments, connected by three newly built bridges that span the Ohio River floodplain and floodway, stretching more than 7,000 linear feet, in addition to 22,000 square feet of retaining walls.
The I-69 Ohio River Crossing project is the key final connection of I-69 between Evansville, Indiana and Henderson, Kentucky. The project is divided into three sections for construction and project delivery. Once complete, the crossing will offer interstate connectivity across the river, helping to reduce traffic congestion and delays while enhancing safety for drivers.
