Archer Western completes Gilbert Road Bridge over Salt River
Mesa, Arizona - Archer Western Construction has completed work on The Gilbert Road Bridge over the Salt River, connecting Mesa to State Route 87 (Beeline Highway). The new bridge replaces a previous two-lane bridge and low-water crossing. The connection features two lanes in each direction, a new traffic signal at the Thomas Road intersection, and new roads connecting the bridge to SR 87 and the City of Mesa. Additionally, the project included the installation of a new storm drain and a 36-inch waterline as part of the Salt River Project's water delivery system.
The new bridge provides a vital connection to the East Valley and ensures safe travel to up to 13,000 cars every day while preventing flood closures during high water flows in the Salt River. Archer Western began work in 2023 and progressed to open one lane in each direction in June 2024. The project reached full completion in February 2025, with all lanes open to traffic.
