I-69 Finish Line, Contract 5 ranked No. 3 Road Project of 2025
Indianapolis, Indiana - Walsh Construction is proud to share the news that I-69 Finish Line, Contract 5 has been ranked third on the Roads & Bridges Top 10 Roads of 2025, recognizing its transformative improvements in mobility, safety and economic stability and growth in Indiana.
Built by Walsh Construction and Milestone Contractors, the I-69 Finish Line Contract 5 Project delivered the long-anticipated vision of a high-capacity, multilane highway that connects Evansville to Indianapolis. The project covered the final five miles of the 26-mile Finish Line corridor, enhancing key stretches of I-465 and was completed on schedule and on budget.
Contract 5 significantly improved traffic flow on one of the Indianapolis region’s most heavily traveled corridors by eliminating six at-grade intersections, adding lanes along I-465 and creating free-flow connections. Travelers between Martinsville and Indianapolis now save approximately 11 minutes compared with pre-construction conditions, built to accommodate more than 90,000 vehicles per day. The project also features new overpasses, underpasses and local access roads, LED lighting to improve nighttime visibility and pedestrian and bicycle crossings to further enhance connectivity safety. The corridor also serves as a major economic benefit for the region by preserving critical trucking capacity along I-465, supporting the flow of goods for Indianapolis.
Through innovation and collaboration between the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), the Walsh-Milestone Joint Venture, HNTB and American Structurepoint, the integrated project team were able to accelerate in problem-solving and communication, even during the COVID-19 pandemic when the team implemented virtual reviews and remote design checks.
