Scottsdale’s Groundwater Treatment Facility named Water Treatment Project of the Year
Scottsdale, AZ – The City of Scottsdale’s Thomas Groundwater Treatment Facility (TGTF) was named the 2021 Water Treatment Project of the Year by the AZ Water Association.
Archer Western delivered preconstruction and construction services for the new TGTF and its 1.5 MGD reverse osmosis system. The new facility treats groundwater from the adjacent Central Groundwater Treatment Facility (CGTF) that is supplied by several existing wells. The new TGTF houses the reverse osmosis (RO) membrane process equipment, chemical storage and feed, and membrane feed pump and pre-treatment systems, a laboratory, electrical and control rooms, conference room, offices for operations staff, locker rooms and maintenance shops.
"Archer Western was brought on as a Construction Manager at Risk at 100% plans; however, they added value to the project from day one and provided a thorough review of documents, identified cost savings and potential issues, facilities coordination with SRP, and delivered a quality project,” said Elaine Mercado, Senior Project Manager for the City of Scottsdale.
Since most groundwater in the southwest is characterized as very hard, the purpose of the project was to reduce the requirement to blend source water to meet compliance, reduce hardness and salinity, and provide pH balancing to the water being sent into the potable water distribution system.
“We are pleased to be recognized by the AZ Water Association and thankful for the partnership with the City of Scottsdale and Water Works Engineers,” said Brad Sanders, Vice President at Archer Western. “This is an important facility for the Scottsdale residents and businesses in the area. I am proud of what this project team has accomplished.”
