CHICAGO, IL - Walsh Construction's Senior Project Manager Deanna Goodman has been recognized by Crain's Chicago Business as one of 2021's Most Notable Women in Construction and Design. Deanna was recognized for her project leadership, dedication to mentoring and commitment to advancing the company culture.
Deanna manages multiple clients from major healthcare institutions within Walsh's Healthcare Center of Excellence, working with client needs from preconstruction activities, to early budgeting and logistics of projects, to fully executing construction projects. Deanna also serves on Walsh’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
Deanna's recent accomplishments include leading the construction of the new $26 million Emergency Department at Rush Oak Park Hospital. She helped create a game-plan of negative pressure rooms and areas to take care of COVID-19 patients. She also temporarily relocated to New York to help complete the 750,000-square-foot new inpatient hospital tower at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, and is back in Chicago leading the preconstruction of a hospital expansion and surgery addition.
Leaning on communication and organization skills, Deanna is always streamlining internal processes within the company and creating templates to better assist peers and staff to perform project management tasks. Deanna led an internal effort within the company's "Management Process" effort as the chair of a committee focused on creating scope checklists and strategies in composing subcontracts. In addition, she spent time streamlining the Walsh Healthcare project start-up process and documentation to better assist consistency and availability of required forms for staff. She is frequently involved in new company initiatives and is a mentor to new employees.
Additionally, Deanna has been working to advance women in construction through mentoring, participation in professional organizations and helping to lead internal company initiatives. Deanna is currently the Vice Chair of Walsh’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee as well as the Committee Head of the Inclusion Subcommittee. Deanna’s responsibilities include organizing heritage and awareness initiatives (Women in Construction, Black History Month, etc.); creating an inclusivity guide; building a mentorship program; and improving Walsh’s maternity leave. She has served as a mentor through the Chicago NAWIC chapter as well as the Purdue University Construction Engineering Management Women in Construction program.
